About the Birds and The Visiting Bird Vases

These Visiting Bird Vases are a continuous series. They have been collected by bird lovers and also given as gifts for those who are mourning a loss and may find the birds comforting. Like lighting a candle, cutting fresh flowers and putting them into your vase can be a ritual of remembrance.
This began with my own experience. One day I realized that I was sculpting birds to perch on nearly all of my vessels. I enjoyed seeing them congregating on wall pieces, meeting on vases, and poised on tree limbs. I began to wonder why, all of a sudden, they were showing up this way.
About that time, I was getting to know the family of one of the organ donors who gave me another chance at life. When he passed, he promised what he left behind to those in need. I received this cherished gift and for me the birds symbolize the presence of the souls of those we are connected to. You may sense someone you love in these sweet visitors.
